The 2011 Formula 1 Season was the 62nd season of Formula One.

TL;DR mostly unchanged from real life, except the 2010 changes and Kubica never has the rally accident.

Team changes[]

  • Renault was bought out by the Lotus Group and transofrmed into Lotus Renault GP.
  • Caterham changed to Renault engines

Driver changes[]

  • Giancarlo Fisichella was dropped by BMW after 2010, as they made a deal to hire German driver Nico Hülkenberg who was dropped by Williams. Fisichella subsequently retired from the sport.
  • Vitantonio Liuzzi was replaced at Force India by Paul di Resta.
  • Lucas di Grassi was replaced by Jerome d'Ambrosio at Marussia. Di Grassi remained with the team as a test driver.
  • USF1 retained Pedro de la Rosa who drove for the team in the second half of 2010, and hired GP2 runner up Sergio Perez as their other driver in place of Lopez.
  • Williams retained Barrichello and hired GP2 champion Pastor Maldonado.

Mid season changes[]

  • After Sebastien Buemi was injured during the British Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo drove in his place in the German and Hungarian Grands Prix.
  • After Sergio Perez was injured during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, Vitantonio Liuzzi drove in his place in the Canadian Grand Prix.

Calendar changes[]

  • The Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled due to the civil unrest in the country. The circuit was due to return to its original layout from 2004-2009.
  • The Indian Grand Prix was added to the calendar, taking place on the Buddh International Circuit.
  • According to the agreement between the Nurburgring and Hockenheimring circuits, the German Grand Prix will be held on the first one.
  • The Brazilian Grand Prix and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix switched places.
  • The Turkish Grand Prix was moved before the Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix.
